Back in the day, whenever someone mentioned pork butt recipes, a part of us (the one that’s still three years old) would see a joke in there somewhere. Since then we’ve learned that, despite the name, pork butt actually has nothing to do with the rear part of the pig.
So, no butts – it’s all shoulder! In all seriousness, pork butt is cut from the upper part of the shoulder. It’s a marvelous piece of meat perfect for slow cooking and roasting. And because it’s an underrated and underused piece of meat, we just had to collect up some of the best pork butt recipes from the Samsung Food app. Deciding on which ones to show you has proven to be harder than we thought it would be! Reading up about authentic Hue-style soup, you’ll find that the city of Hue has its own regional culture, dialect and cuisine. While still considered Vietnamese, the people of Hue have had a huge influence the Vietnamese dishes we know and love today. And this flavorful soup, which is a popular breakfast dish in Vietnam, is a perfect spicy representation of that. Give it a try one winter morning!
2. Tomato Soup with Cabbage and Pork Butt

There’s nothing we love more than a recipe that works every time, tastes delicious, and can feed a crowd – but doesn’t require taking on a loan to put together. This super affordable soup includes easily accessible veggies and our champion ingredient – pork butt. This one’s also very easy to make, but it does require at least two hours of your time. So worth it, though! Believe us, you’ll have leftovers for days, and then some. Plus, this lovely soup is suitable for freezing.

Let’s be honest; there was was always going to have an amazing stew somewhere on this list. Pork butt recipes can be a tad hard to chew if they’re not cooked for long enough. That’s why it’s a great cut of meat for all recipes that need a bit of slow cooking.
You can definitely omit some ingredients (or add some, like potatoes!) and adjust the ingredients to your liking. Since the preparation and cooking time take around 2 hours, maybe it’s better to leave this one for a weekend project. That way you won’t need to cook on Monday either.

We simply couldn’t be more in love with this Pork and Pepper Stir-fry recipe! It requires minimal fuss and always turns out amazing. We bet you can’t even watch an episode of your favorite Netflix show in under half an hour…but in less than 25 minutes in the kitchen, you’ll have a well-balanced meal on the table which can feed the whole family.
If you don’t have peppers on hand, you can use other vegetables, like carrots, zucchinis… anything really.
5. Melissa Clark’s Crispy Salt & Pepper Pork

Another pork butt recipe guaranteed to be a hit is this beautifully seasoned Crispy Pork. There’s nothing we like better than a contrast in color and texture, and this dish has it all. The green jalapeño pepper adds spiciness, but if you’re not a fan, you can definitely leave it out.
If you want a more traditionally filling meal, a side of cooked rice can really round out the dinner. But it’s totally up to you. Add a good squeeze of zesty lime juice to everything, and you’re good to go!
6. Mexican slow cooker pulled pork

In general, pulled pork is a very popular dish made from pork shoulder or pork butt. The meat is cooked on low temperature for several hours, then pulled apart and seasoned. It works well with a number of dishes. This particular recipe is great in tacos (and in any kind of a meaty Mexican dish, really).
Another thing – if you don’t own a slow cooker or a similar device, preparing this dish on a stove is absolutely possible. Low heat and random spot checks throughout the day will do the trick!
